Do you wake up tired and with low energy most mornings?
If you regularly hit snooze a few times before getting out of bed or you make a beeline for the coffee machine as soon as your feet hit the floor, this is for you.
Here are 4 solutions for waking up alert and with high energy
Number 1: Go to bed by 10
Between 10 pm and 2 am your body is repairing muscle, tissue, skin, and organs. So, if you’re going to bed later than 10 you’re missing out on critical restoration to your body.
Number 2: Drink 2-3 L water
It may sound too simple of a solution, but most people aren’t drinking enough water. Your body is made up of about 70% water so water is crucial for bodily functions, digestion, mental alertness, and more.
Adding a pinch of colored salt, such as Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt, helps support adrenal glands, provide electrolytes, stimulate healthy bowel movements, and help you wake up with energy and focus in the morning.
Number 3: Exercise in the morning
Get at least 30 minutes of exercise early in the day. People that do some type of workout in the morning tend to sleep longer and have deeper sleep cycles. Exercise, including something light such as yoga or walking, is also a healthier alternative than coffee to give you a boost in alertness and energy levels.
You should avoid strenuous workouts late in the evening or right before bed.
Number 4: Get sunlight
Getting sunlight makes a big difference in sleep quality as well as your mood. In fact, it has been shown people who don’t get enough sunlight don’t make enough serotonin, which can increase risk of depression.
Getting sunlight on your skin when you wake up in the morning, not only wakes up your cells, it also shuts off melatonin production and resets your internal clock to start a new day.
In our region it’s hard to get early morning sunlight from October to April, so I highly recommend getting a blue light therapy lamp.
